The aim of green transportation plans is to minimize the impact of travel on the environment. 

Ecofriendly Transportation

Green transportation can play a part of reducing emissions of green house gases, improving local air quality, minimize health risks and reducing congestion noise. Green transportation is not only a low-carbon and environmental travelling mode, but also a return to healthy and leisure lifestyle. The construction of green transportation system is good for the intensive use of road resources for ease of traffic congestion, the decrease of energy consumption for energy conservation, the reduction of exhaust emission for improvement of air quality, the reduction of carbon emission for decrease of greenhouse effect, and the construction of livable cities for improvement of citizen health.

Reduce Pollution.

The existing modes of transportation utilize sources of energy such as fossil fuels, which emit vast qualities of green house gases to the environment. Shifting to green transportation would help rid the atmosphere of these toxic gases since these modes of transportation have few to zero emissions.

Improves Health

Energy sources from fossils fuels like natural gas, coal, and oil emit toxic gases that negatively affect our health. In fact, these gasses have been associated with rising cases of cancer and other cardiovascular diseases. The emissions produced by green vehicles are not harmful to human health, so embracing green transportation will only improve a country’s health status.

Motorcycles and scooters can be eco-friendly transportation options in certain situations. They are smaller in weight and size to other motor vehicles. They are also more fuel-efficient and require fewer resources to build. However, motorcycles and scooters can be worst for the environment than cars in some cases. Motorcycles and scooters have lower pollution control standards. While they emit less CO2, they emit higher levels of hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides. 

These gases can be worse for global warming and human health impacts than cars in some cases. Another drawback of motorcycles and scooters is the risk of a motorcycle accident. Even though these vehicles may be energy efficient, they can be dangerous to ride. Motorcycle accidents can result in catastrophic and debilitating injuries. 

The improvement of green travelling infrastructure is the improvement of green travelling conditions and the increase of travelling flexibility and attraction. However, the bicycle lanes at both sides of the auxiliary roads of fast road are often occupied by high-speed electric motorcycle, motorcycle, motorcycle taxi or even motor vehicle; some secondary trunk roads do not have designated special bicycle lanes, while many special lane marks are damaged and could not be identified; the width of many walking lanes is less than one meter, so the spatial demand for pedestrians in single direction could not be met.

Electric and hybrid vehicles can be slower than conventional vehicles. While EVs and HEVs may be efficient for city travel, diesel and biodiesel cars may be more efficient for interstate and long-distance travel. Diesel fuel is refined from crude oil. Before 2006, diesel fuel contained high quantities of sulfur. The diesel sold now for use in motor vehicles is a low-sulfur diesel, which is better for the environment.

While diesel vehicles have a higher fuel economy and do not admit as much CO2 as gasoline vehicles, they still are not as environmentally friendly as biodiesel vehicles. Biodiesel is a renewable, clean-burning substitute for petroleum diesel. Biodiesel is produced from used cooking oils, vegetable oils, animal fats, or yellow grease. Therefore, it decreases our reliance on petroleum. Because the release of carbon dioxide from biodiesel is offset by the carbon dioxide absorbed by growing soybeans and other feedstocks, biodiesel reduces carbon dioxide by 74 percent over petroleum diesel.

Cycling is mainly an aerobic activity, which means that your heart, blood vessels and lungs all get a workout. You will breathe deeper, perspire and experience increased body temperature, which will improve your overall fitness level. Cycling also helps a lot to reduce the pollution.

Sustainable Transport Facts

Everyone benefits from cleaning up our transportation system. Canadians [and everyone else in the world] need access to affordable electric vehicles, bike lanes, and fast public transportation.

Government actions are needed to get EVs in the hands of Canadians who want them. It’s a great way to reduce emissions from the transportation sector.

Most electric cars in Canada will be powered by clean electricity. But even in provinces that are still working to phase out coal, EVs are up to three times more efficient than gas-powered cars and create less carbon pollution.
